Do you wake up every morning and just feel like going through the motions of life? Do you cringe at the thought that you might be doing what you’re doing now for the rest of your life? Do you feel stuck in life? Well, if your answer is yes to all these questions, then it’s time to change things up a bit by adding some excitement and challenge to your life.

Adding excitement and challenge, however, doesn’t always have to mean engaging in heart-stopping adventures like bungee jumping or white-water rafting. They could also mean just doing simple activities. Check out some simple activities that can add excitement and challenge to your life.

Go back to playing like a kid

Do you remember how much fun you had playing when you were a kid? You probably do, so why not play like a kid again? You can, for one, play classic board games once more. On game nights, try to outwit your buddies in a game of Scrabble or Battleship. You can also challenge them to a game of Twister! Building or construction toys for kids (and kids at heart!) have always been a source of fun as well.

You can build toy cars like the McLaren Senna with Tamiya kits or structures like GOT’s Winterfell with Wrebbit 3D puzzles. If you’re a gamer, put away your PlayStation 5 or Xbox Series X from time to time and go back to basics with a Nintendo Family Computer or Super NES. You’ll surely have a blast playing Super Mario Bros. and Street Fighter on these classic consoles and their tiny controllers!

Tap into your artistic side

Art activities can also be quite exciting and challenging. So if you’ve never tried tapping into your artistic side before, now is the perfect time to do so. There’s always traditional art like painting and drawing. Start with sketching with pencils, and then move on to painting with watercolor, oil, or even aerosol paint. If you want to take advantage of modern technology, though, you can try digital art using drawing tablets.

Have you seen an episode of History channel’s Forged in Fire? Great show, right? You can also unleash your creative side this way—by becoming a modern-day bladesmith. Upcycling, the process of turning unwanted stuff into items of greater value, is another great (and very practical) artistic activity to get into. With upcycling, you can repurpose a broken wooden chair, for example, into a footstool or even a plant stand.

Volunteer your time and services

Sometimes feeling needed by other people and having a useful role in your community can get you out of a rut. Volunteer your time and services now and not only give back to your community but also add some excitement and challenge to your life. Start in your neighborhood. If you’re quite the handyman, for instance, offer to fix leaky kitchen faucets, install additional door locks, or what have you to your neighbors for free. Then, if you have time, you can volunteer at organizations in your community as well.

Maybe you can spend a Saturday or two every month looking after dogs, cats, and other animals at your local shelter. Is there a non-profit youth sports center in your community? The kids there could definitely use your skills and knowledge if you’re good at basketball, football, or other sports.

Explore the world around you

Few things are more exciting than discovering the world around you, right? Of course, you have natural and man-made wonders all around. And the good thing is you actually don’t have to go far to experience such wonders. If there’s a beach near you, go there whenever you can. But for a change, hit the beach when there’s not much of a crowd so that you can just sit quietly watching and listening to the waves crashing against the shore. The local museum is a great place to see beautiful works made by people.

Probably more important than your physical surroundings, however, are the people around you. So make the effort to get to know your acquaintances better. You should also find time to meet other people. Always be kind to other people because it can be the difference between a good and bad day for some of them.

If you ever feel like that there’s got to be more to life, then it’s high time you change things up a bit and add some excitement and challenge to your life. But don’t go skydiving, climbing mountains, or engaging in other adrenaline-pumping adventures as doing simple everyday activities can already bring more excitement and challenge to your life.
